Executive Director, U.S. Lumber Coalition

Picard Kentz & Rowe LLP (PKR) has represented the U.S. Lumber Coalition since 2009, advising the Coalition during the U.S. – Canada Softwood Lumber Trade Agreement, and spearheading the current ongoing trade cases against Canada’s unfair trade practices.  While we could provide countless examples of how great PKR has been to work with over the years, we prefer to simply point to the results of their representation.

Since the filing of the current antidumping and countervailing duty (AD & CVD) cases against Canada, through which we have helped level the playing field against Canada’s unfair trade practices, the U.S. lumber industry has grown its production by over 21 billion board feet cumulatively.  That means more U.S. lumber being produced by U.S. workers for U.S. homes.  This would have been difficult to achieve without the success of the ongoing trade cases against Canada brought by PKR on behalf of the U.S. industry.

The U.S. – Canada softwood lumber trade case is considered, among the Washington DC trade bar, as one of the most complex AD & CVD cases being litigated before the U.S. Department of Commerce and other judicial and quasi judicial venues.  Between the Canadian federal government, provincial governments, and private interested parties, Canada employs some 18 law firms and countless outside experts to litigate every aspect of this case.  The U.S. industry, through the U.S. Lumber Coalition, employs one law firm and a set of outside experts to press the U.S. government to fully and effectively enforce the U.S. trade laws against Canada’s unfair trade practices in the lumber market.  The Coalition entrusts Picard Kentz & Rowe with this crucial effort.
