Challenges and considerable opportunities for investment in Iraq

For the Middle East Institute, Sujata Ashwarya Cheema takes a comprehensive look at the opportunities available for foreign investors in Iraq (highlights: favorable tax regime, high demand in many sectors), as well as the substantial challenges that impede investment (continued and unpredictable violence, an incomplete legal infrastructure, regional disputes over resources).
This piece presents a much rosier perspective than Michael Knights’ recent article, which raised the alternate possibilities of increased civil conflict or regime change. Cheema does an excellent job of illustrating that foreign investment is possible–and often profitable–even in complicated and uncertain environments.
